High-velocity ice impact damage quantification in composite laminates using a frequency domain-based correlation approach

چکیده

This paper investigates the feasibility of using a novel domain-based correlation approach derived from complex frequency domain assurance criterion (CFDAC) for detection and quantification impact damage in composite laminates. The CFDAC is essentially complex-valued two-dimensional indicator covariance between two sets response functions each pair spectral lines corresponding to vibration-response pristine states. study focuses on induced by high-velocity ice impacts carbon fiber laminated plates. experimental results demonstrate that proposed methodology correctly identifies level via user-independent scalar indicator. Therefore, this has potential use as indicator, which could be adapted structural assessment non-destructive method. research aims contribute further development functional, autonomous, reliable health monitoring systems structures based spectral-domain indices.

Damage Assessment in Glass Fiber-Epoxy Matrix Composite under High Velocity Impact of Ice

This study investigated the influence of nanoclay on the impact damage resistance of glass fiber-epoxy composites under high velocity ice impact loading. Addition of 0.5 wt. % nanoclay into epoxy was shown to improve damage resistance compared to composite plates having no nanoclay platelet. The glass fiber-epoxy composites containing nanoclay brought about substantial improvement in ice impact...

Modelling low velocity impact induced damage in composite laminates

The paper presents recent progress on modelling low velocity impact induced damage in fibre reinforced composite laminates. It is important to understand the mechanisms of barely visible impact damage (BVID) and how it affects structural performance. To reduce labour intensive testing, the development of finite element (FE) techniques for simulating impact damage becomes essential and recent ef...

Low Velocity Impact Damage Prediction in Laminated Composite Plates

In this paper, a finite element model is presented for the transient analysis of low velocity impact, and the impact induced damage in the composite plate subjected to low velocity impact is studied. The failure criteria suggested by Choi and Chang and the Tsai-Hill failure criteria are used for the prediction of the damage in the composite plate; then the effect of various parameters on the im...

A High-Velocity Impact Simulation using SPH-Projection Method

In this paper, a new smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) algorithm for simulation of elastic-plastic deformation of solids was proposed. The key point was that materials under highvelocity impact (HVI) behave like fluids. This led to propose a method which was similar to the socalled SPH-projection method, in which the momentum equations are solved as the governing equations. The method consi...
